Note In 1978, the Wasur Wildlife Reserve was appointed from the Wasur Wildlife Reserve area of 206,000 ha and the 4,000 ha Rawa Biru Natural Reserve according to the Minister of Agriculture Decree No. 252 / Kpts / Um / 5/1978, dated May 2, 1978.

Based on the Decree of the Minister of Forestry No. 448 / Menhut-IV / 90, dated March 6, 1990, the area was declared a Wasur National Park area of 308,000 ha and subsequently based on Ministry of Forestry’s Decree no. 282 / Kpts-IV / 1997, dated May 23, 1997, the appointment of Wasur National Park area in Merauke Regency of Irian Jaya Province is 413,810 ha.

Identification Water Hyacinth (Eichornia crassipes) is a marine aquatic ecosystem; Mammoth water pamphlet (Mimossa pigra) is a pest of riverside ecosystem because its growth has covered most of Maro river bank. Krinyuh (Cromolaena odorata) its development has disrupted open ecosystems especially the former extraterrestrial areas, the rat-tailed bush (Stachyiarpheta urticaefolia) its cultivators have occupied the grassland habitat of the Ukra and Kankanas; Other plants that have the potential to threaten the endemic flora of fauna include swamps (Hanguana sp), Watercress (Pitsia sp), Salvima (Salvinia sp), Sidagori (Sida acuta) and Chicken Tahi (Lantana camara), and Acacia nilotica ).

In addition, Melaleuca Dominant Forests, Co-Dominant Forests Melaleuca sp – Eucalyptus sp, Rare Forest, Coastal Forest, Seasonal Forest, River Rainforest, Mangrove Forest, Sabana, Grassland and Swampy Grasslands.

The vegetation is dominated by Melaleuca sp, Asteromyrtus symphiocarpa, Eucalyptus sp, Acacia sp, Alstonia actinopilla, Dilenia alata, Baxia dentata, Graminae sp, Pandannus sp, Cycas sp, Amorphopalus sp, Orchid and others.

Fauna

Endemik
Identification Mammals; Based on the results of a survey conducted there are 34 species of 80 species of mammals that are identified. Large mammals in Wasur National Park area are kangaroo field (Macropus agilis), Kangaroo forest / ordinary (Darcopsis veterum) and Kangaroo Land (Thylogale brunii). Besides that there are other mammals that are civet woods (Dasyurus spartacus), spotted cuscus (Spilocuscus Petaurus breviceps) known locally as squirrels and others.

Bird; Wasur national park has a diversity of birds that have been recorded 403 species with 74 species of which are endemic to Papua and estimated there are 114 protected species. The bird species include: Garuda Papua (Aquila gurneyei), Cenderawasih (Paradisea apoda novaguineae), Cockatoo (Cacatua sp), Mambruk (Crown pigeons), Kasuari (Cassowary), Eagle (Circus sp.), Alap-alap ( Accipiter sp.) And others. Besides the wetlands owned by Wasur National Park is a very important place for migratory birds from Australia and New Zealand such as: Gray / Ndarau (Cranes Trans-fly), Pelikan, Ibis (Stra-necked, Glossy and White) Boha (Magpie geese), Beach Bird (Plovers, Australian Pratincole) and Spoonbills.

Fish; The Wasur National Park area is a vast wetland, where much of the aquatic life is an important component of biodiversity within the region. There are 39 species of fish from 72 species available, of which 32 species are in the Blue Rawa and 7 species are found in the Maro River such as Scleropages jardinii, Cochlefelis, Doiichthys, Nedystoma, Tetranesodon, Iriatherina and Kiunga and others.

Reptiles and Amphibians; There were 26 species of reptiles (Crocodylus porosus and Crocodylus novaguineae), 3 species of lizards (Varanus sp.), 4 species of turtles, 5 lizards (Mabouya sp.), 8 species of snakes (Condoidae, Liasis, Pyton) and 1 type of chameleon (Calotus jutatas) and 3 types of frogs; tree frogs (Hylla crueelea), irian tree frogs (Litoria infrafrenata) and green frogs (Rona macrodon).

Insects (Insects); Recorded in Wasur National Park there are 48 species, including: Termites (Tumulitermis sp. And Protocapritermis sp.), Butterflies (Ornithoptera priamus), ants (Formicidae, Nytalidae, Pieridae) and others. In addition to the original fauna species, within the Wasur TN area there are also exotic species of fauna such as deer (Cervus timorensis), Cow (Bos sp.) And various species of fish such as: betik (Anabas testudineus), cork (Crassis auratus) , Mujair (Orechromis mossambica) and Tawes (Cyprinus carpio).

In addition, common types of animals include tree kangaroos (Dendrolagus spadix), king mussels (Psittrichus fulgidus), cassowary wailing (Casuarius casuarius sclateri), crown / mambruk (Goura cristata), large yellow parrots (Paradisea apoda novaeguineae) cendrawasih king (Cicinnurus regius rex), red paradise (Paradisea rubra), freshwater crocodiles (Crocodylus novaeguineae), and saltwater crocodiles (C. porosus)
