Note Referring to the research results of Van Bemmelen (1970), Paliyan Wildlife Reserve area is covered in the category of Mount Sewu (Seribu Mountains). The Sewu Mountain Formation covers Panggang, Paliyan, Saptosari, Tepus, South Semanu, Ponjong Southeast and Rongkop. Mount Sewu is stretched to the East to the District of Eromoko in Wonogiri District, Central Java Province.

The Paliyan Wildlife Reserve is designated by Decree of the Minister of Forestry No. 171 / Kpts-II / 2000 on the designation of forest areas in the Special Province of Yogyakarta.

This area is the transfer of function of production forest area in plot 136 up to plot 141 is in BDH Paliyan area with total area of 434,60 ha.

Topographic area of ​​the karst hills with a thin layer of soil, has a slope above 40%.

Geomorphologically this area is called karst topography with cone hill, lake, cave, underground river, and so forth.

The karst ecosystem Paliyan wildlife reserves is a unique ecosystem in terms of physical, biotic and social aspects of society. The uniqueness of the karst landscape is characterized by specific features, such as surface features (dry valleys, lakes, stream patterns entering the soil) and subterranean features (underground rivers, caves, ornaments, and existing life).

The karst landscape can be well developed by the work of solution processes under climate control. Climatic aspects determine the formation of karst ecosystem. The characteristics of rain, temperature, humidity affect the rate of solution prose working on soluble rock.

The solusional process can be caused by rainwater, surface flow, percolation, underground river flow and wave work. From the hydrological aspect of surface water is found in dolin, uvala, and polye, while groundwater is controlled by cave systems and underground rivers. Fractures and fissure systems can produce springs.

Identification Of the 6 plots that have almost no timber plantation, only plots 136, 137 and 138 or about 3.25% of the total area of BC that some plants live in sapling, poles and some trees (trees) with conditions that are also not healthier with normal conditions. The existing tree types consist of Teak and Sono Keling.
