Note | Wildlife Sanctuary of Padang Sugihan was determined based on the Decree of the Minister of Forestry No. 004 / Kpts-II / 1983, dated 19 April 1983 with an area of 71,807 Ha. Based on Forestry Minister Decree No. 193 / Kpts-II / 1993 dated 27 February 1993 to 86,932 Ha.
The status of this area was previously fixed production forest and planned by the government as a transmigration site. At that location have been built canals / channels primary and secondary lines 21, SP3, SP4, SP5, SP6 and SP7. At the location around the planned area as the transmigration site there are ± 232 elephants are trapped and can not get out of the transmigration area. The elephants are feared to be disturbed because of the limited existence of existing habitats or otherwise can disrupt transmigration settlements to be built dolokasi it. Based on the above considerations then the elephants are herded and moved to the new habitat of Padang Sugihan Forest with ecosystems eligible for elephant habitat. And finally on April 19, 1983 the area was designated as a Wildlife Sanctuary. This Wildlife Sanctuary covers lowland areas from periodic floods of forests, swamps and grasslands. Habitat when the park was set up included peat swamp forest, swamp meadow, river swamp forest and Melaleuca dry forest. forest areas Peat-swamp floods most of the year, while the rest of the park’s flood area periodically to a depth of 1-1.5 meters. |

Identification | Based on research results of South Sumatera KSDA, KSDA II Tanjung Karang and Bogor Forest Research Institute / Institute, it is known that the most dominant flora species is Gelam (Melaloca leucadendron). In the middle of the region with high topography there are types Meranti (Shorea sp.), Jelutung (Dyera costulata), Ficus sp. and Camnospermae sp .. The middle with low topography consists of Pales (Licuala sp.), Sallaca conferta, Eugenia grata, Rasau (Pandanus sp.), Dillenia sp., Tersrangia abovava, Calamus spp., Zingiberaceal, Shrimp (Sternachena palustris), elephant fern (Acratium sp.) and Pakis design (Pteridium aguilium).
