Note The area of Mt. Merbabu National Park is designated based on Minister of Forestry Decree no. 135 / Menhut-II / 2004 dated May 4, 2004 on changes in the function of protected forest areas and natural tourism parks in the 5.725 hectare Merbabu forest group. This area is considered important as a source of springs for people living in the vicinity.

In addition, the Merbabu forest area is also a protected and conserved habitat for flora and fauna. National park management system implemented is expected to be able to conserve and develop this conservation area so as to improve the welfare of the community.

Identification dominated by, Pine plant, Puspa, Bintamin, Acacia decuren and several types of shrubs, fennel, eldeweis and epiphytic plants.

Highland tropical rainforest ecosystems (1,500-2,400 m above sea level) are covered by acacia decuren (Acacia decurens) vegetation, puspa (Schima noronhae), kesowo (Engelhardia spicata), tengsek (Dodonea viscosa) …

The sub alpine forest ecosystem is located at the peak of Mount Merbabu (2,400 – 3,142 m above sea level) which is widely grassed, edelweiss (Anaphalis javanica), mountain drought (Albizia lophanta), sweet rejo (Vaccinumvaringiaefolium).
