Note n 1980 before becoming a national park, this Wildlife Sanctuary was established to protect the Komodo dragon and its habitat. There are 277 species of animals that are a mix of animals originating from Asia and Australia, which consists of 32 species of mammals, 128 species of birds, and 37 species of reptiles. Together with the Komodo dragon, at least 25 species of terrestrial animals and birds including protected animals, due to their limited or limited number of spreading.

In addition, in this region there are also coral reefs. There are at least 253 species of coral reefs found there, with about 1,000 species of fish. The beauty of this reef attracts foreign tourists to swim or dive in these waters…

Identification 1. Grassland and Savana Forest; There are grasslands and savanna forests covering approximately 70% of the Komodo national park area. Growing various types of grass include; Setaria adhaerens, Chloris barbata, Heteropogon contortus, Themeda gigantea and Themeda gradiosa interspersed by lontar trees (Borassus flobellifer) which is a distinctive plant.

2. Tropical Forest Season (below 500 m asl); Approximately 25% of the Komodo area is a tropical forest with seasonal species, including kesambi (Schleichera oleosa), asem (Tamarindus indica), kepuh (Sterculia foetida), and several other plant species.

3. Forest above 500 m above sea level at an altitude above 500 m above sea level; On the hilltops, the vegetation is among others; Collophyllum spectobile, Colona kostermansiana, Glycosmis pentaphylla, Ficus urupaceae, Mischarpus sundaicus, Podocarpus netrifolia, Teminalia zollingeri, Uvaria ruva, rattan (Callamus sp.), Bamboo (Bambusa sp.), And in a fairly shady place are usually found living moss attached on the rocks.

4. Mangrove Forest; There is a bay that is sheltered from the waves. Types of vegetation, among others; Rhizophora sp., Rhizophora mucronata, and Lumnitzera racemosa are the dominant vegetation types. But in general there are also fires (Avicennia marina), Bruguiera sp., Capparis seplaria, Ceriops tagal, and Sonneratia alba. The mangrove community in the Komodo conservation area is a natural physical barrier against soil erosion and its roots become breeding grounds, spawning, and protection areas for fish, crabs, shrimp and molluscs.
