Note Gumai Pasemah is designated as Wildlife Sanctuary based on the Minister of Agriculture No. Sk. 408 / Kpts / Um / 6/1976, dated July 30, 1976 of 45,883 ha, was amended by the issuance of Decree of the Minister of Forestry no. 410 / Kpts-Il / 1986, dated 29 December 1986 with the extent to 71,250 ha. Based on the Decree of the Minister of Forestry no. 76 / Kpts-Il / 2001, dated March 15, 2001 with the extent to 46,123 ha.

The status of this area was previously protected forest. Because it has a very important function in terms of fauna and flora as well as its history that there are wildlife Elephant, Sumatran Tiger, Siamang, Goat Forest, Kuau, Rangkong Bird and protected plants such as raflesia flowers and ancient relics such as statues and carved stones that require special coaching for the sake of its sustainability to be utilized for the benefit of science and culture. So Gumai Pasemah was set up as a wildlife reserve area.

Identification Gumai Pasemah consists of two highlands namely Gumai plateau and Pasemah plateau. Since it is a highland tropical forest ecosystem type, so many plants are Rattan with stands of Meranti (Shorea sp.), Rasamala (Altingia exeelsa), Suren (Tooma sureni) and various rattan.
