Note Pancoran Mas Forest Park or also known as Forest Park Depok is a Forest Kingdom Park which is one of the oldest nature reserves in Indonesia.

Depok Forest Park was originally known as Pancoran Mas Nature Reserve. Prior to becoming a nature reserve, this forest was part of a large private estate belonging to Cornelis Chastelein, acquired in the late seventeenth century. The land is then managed as a plantation land with the help of its slaves who come from various tribes in Indonesia.

When he died in 1714, Chastelein left all the land in Depok territory to his twelve clans of slaves, except for a beautiful and natural wooded field in the middle. In his will dated March 13, 1714 it was written that the forest land should not be transferred and must be managed as a nature reserve (Netherlands: natuurreservaat) because of its irreplaceable natural beauty.

Within two centuries, on March 31, 1913 the reserve was handed over to the Government of the Dutch East Indies, then managed by the Netherlands Indies Natural Protection Society (Nederlandsch-Indische Vereeniging tot Natuurbescherming).

This area was then confirmed as Natuurreservaat based on the Decree of the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies No.7 dated May 13, 1926, and together with the Cibodas-Gede Nature Reserve (now part of Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park) became the first nature reserve established in Indonesia.

The rapid development of the area around Jabodetabek is not beneficial for the preservation of forest areas, including the Pancoran Mas Nature Reserve. The area of the nature reserve forest is gradually experiencing the narrowing and environmental damage due to the growth of settlements and the surrounding urban areas. The richness of biodiversity that became its crown, has now been much reduced, so it is considered no longer feasible to be preserved as a reserve area.

In 1999, through the Decree of the Minister of Forestry and Plantation No.276 / KPTS-II / 1999, this nature reserve was converted to a Great Forest Park under the name of Taman Hutan Raya Depok covering an area of 6 ha.
