Low area vegetation is dominated by Dipterocarpaceae family with Damar type (Shorea multiflora), Meranti rice (Hopea sp), Meranti flower (Shorea acuminata).
High vegetation areas include Anturmangun (Casuarina sumatrana), Tusam (Pinus merkusii), Sampinur flower (Podocarpus imbricatus) and Sampinur rope (Dacrydium junghuhnii).
Orchid Species: There are 60 species of orchids consisting of 31 genera, dinventarisir grow naturally in SM Barumun (Dwi Murti Puspitaningtyas, 2010). Among these species there are new records in Sumatra namely Cleisostomacomplicatum, Eria cepifolia, Malleola baliensis and Saccolabiopsis bakhuisenii, Only one species of Sumatran endemic orchid found Eria rubifera. Types of rare saprophytic orchids Erythrorchis, ochobiensis and rythrorchis altissima, Calanthe triplicata, Plocoglottis javanica, Claderia viridiflora, Liparis wrayi and Neuwiedia zollingeri var. javanica.Thecostele, alata, Acriopsis liliifolia and Erythrorchis, cf. altissima, The dominant species of orchids are Dendrobium truncatum, Cleisostoma complicatum, Eria cepifolia and Vanilla sp. In addition there are many other unique and interesting types of Bulbophyllum lobbii, B. ecornutum, Cymbidium atropurpureum, C.finlaysonianum, Coelogyne rochussenii, C.asperata, Macola petola, etc.
